Terms of service
1. What Finebound is — and is not
Finebound is a trading name of THE JOHNSEN COMPANY, a Norwegian enkeltpersonforetak, organisation number 938 190 712. Invoices and receipts are issued in that registered name. Your card statement will show FINEBOUND.
Finebound sells travel research and planning, delivered as a personal website. Route Study helps you compare possible routes. The Atlas and Extended Journey develop your chosen route into a complete itinerary. The scope of each service is set out below.
Finebound is not a travel agency or tour operator. I do not book flights, accommodation, transport, tours or insurance on your behalf. I do not hold, handle or forward any money intended for a travel provider. I am not a package-travel organiser within the meaning of the Norwegian Package Travel Act (pakkereiseloven), and buying research from me does not give you the protections that apply to a package holiday.
Every booking you make is a direct contract between you and that provider. Accommodation search links are provided for convenience; a search result does not mean I have reviewed every property listed. I earn no commission from your bookings.
2. How a project runs
Route Study and The Atlas are fixed-price and paid in full when you order:
- You complete the application describing your trip, and pay by card.
- I confirm within two working days, with questions if I have them. If I am not the right fit for your trip, I say so and refund you in full.
- I research and build your route study or itinerary, and deliver your personal website.
- You get the revisions included in your package.
You can cancel for a full refund at any time before I start work. If you cancel while work is underway, you pay only for the proportionate work completed and I refund the rest. The full cancellation terms, your right of withdrawal and the guarantee if the work misses your agreed brief are set out in Cancellation & refunds.
Extended Journey is quoted per project:
- You send an application. This is free and commits you to nothing.
- We talk, and I reply with a scope, a price and a delivery date — or tell you I am not the right fit.
- If you accept, I invoice 50% as a deposit. Work starts when it is paid.
- I deliver, you get your revisions, and I invoice the balance. The private site stays live once it is paid.
You can also select Free enquiry if you would like help choosing a service. Sending an enquiry requires no payment and does not commit you to a project. I reply within two working days.
3. Prices and payment
- Route Study — €150: up to 10 nights in one country. Three route outlines with suggested stops, nights, travel times and trade-offs, a personal site with an interactive map, and one round of revisions. Delivery in 5–7 working days.
- The Atlas — €390: up to 21 nights in one country. Three route options, then one complete itinerary with stays, food, activities, transport, maps and booking links in your personal site. Includes two revision rounds and one 45-minute call. Delivery in 10–14 working days.
- Extended Journey — from €790: planning for longer or multi-country trips, with the final scope, price and delivery date agreed in your quote before payment. Includes the complete itinerary service, three revision rounds, two planning calls and one check before departure, unless your accepted quote states otherwise.
Delivery periods run from a complete brief and confirmed start date. I confirm availability within two working days. The fees cover planning and your personal website; accommodation, transport and other travel expenses are paid separately to the providers you book.
The fixed fee shown at checkout, or the price in your accepted quote, applies to your order. All prices are in euro (EUR). Norwegian clients may be invoiced in NOK on request. Payment is by card through Stripe; I never see or store your card details. Invoices are due within 14 days unless stated otherwise. No Norwegian VAT (MVA) is charged on these prices, because Finebound is not yet VAT-registered.
4. What I need from you
Accurate dates, budget and constraints, and any bookings already made. If material facts change after work has begun — different dates, a different destination, a booking I designed around that you then cancel — the work may need redoing, and I will tell you before doing it whether that is covered by your included revisions or needs a new quote.
5. Revisions
Route Study includes one round of revisions; The Atlas includes two; Extended Journey includes three unless your accepted quote states otherwise. A round means one consolidated set of changes to the agreed brief. Changes beyond the agreed scope or included rounds are quoted before I begin that additional work.
6. Accuracy, and the limits of research
I research carefully and check load-bearing facts against primary sources. But timetables, prices, opening hours, closures and weather all change, and some sources are simply wrong. Research cannot guarantee future travel conditions. Verify anything you are relying on — especially transport connections and opening days — before you book or travel.
7. Your deliverable, and portfolio use
When the final invoice is paid, the delivered site and its contents are yours to use for your own travel, indefinitely, including offline. I keep the underlying research methods and any reusable components.
I would like to show your project as a public example. I will not do so without your explicit written permission, and if you agree I will remove your name, dates and any personal detail unless you say otherwise. You do not have to share your trip publicly or provide a testimonial. Declining either does not change your price or service.
8. Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here affects your mandatory rights as a consumer under Norwegian law. Subject to that, my total liability for any claim arising from a project is limited to the amount you paid me for it. I am not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including missed transport, unavailable accommodation, cancelled services, or weather.
9. Governing law
Norwegian law governs these terms, with Oslo tingrett as the ordinary venue. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EEA, you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer rules of your own country. Consumers may complain to Forbrukertilsynet. The European Commission also provides a directory of consumer dispute resolution bodies.
Cancellation & refunds
Your 14-day right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer, Norwegian law (angrerettloven, implementing the EU Consumer Rights Directive) gives you 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract without giving a reason. The period runs from the day the contract is made.
To withdraw, email hello@finebound.com — a clear statement is enough, and you may use the standard withdrawal form. I will refund you within 14 days of being told, using the same payment method.
If you cancel outside the withdrawal period
- Before work starts: full refund of everything you have paid.
- After work starts, before delivery: you pay a proportionate amount for the work completed to that point, and the rest is refunded.
- After delivery: the fee is due in full, subject to the guarantee below.
If the work is not right
If the route study or itinerary misses your agreed brief, tell me what needs correcting and I will work through it with you using the included revisions: one round for Route Study, two for The Atlas, and three for Extended Journey unless your accepted quote states otherwise.
If the work still does not meet the agreed brief after those revisions, I will refund your planning fee in full. This guarantee concerns the planning work you ordered; your bookings remain separate contracts with the travel providers.
If you change your dates, destination or requirements, I will confirm whether the changes fit the included revisions or need a new quote before doing additional work. If you cancel for reasons unrelated to the work, the cancellation terms above apply.
None of the above affects your rights under Norwegian consumer law. The 14-day right of withdrawal described above stands on its own, and if I deliver something that is not what was agreed you keep the remedies the law gives you. No term here can remove those, and this one does not attempt to.
If I cancel
If I cannot deliver — illness, or a destination I cannot research responsibly — you get a full refund of everything paid, promptly, and I will say so as early as I can.
Standard withdrawal form
You do not have to use this form — a clear statement by any means will do. It is here because Norwegian law (angrerettloven § 8 first paragraph, letter h) requires me to provide it.
Open the standard withdrawal form / angreskjema
Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from the contract.
I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the supply of the following service:
- Ordered on / received on
- Name of consumer
- Address of consumer
- Description of the service
- Signature of consumer (only if this form is notified on paper)
- Date
Norsk: send de samme opplysningene til adressen over, med overskriften «Angreskjema». Du kan også bruke en hvilken som helst annen utvetydig erklæring.
Privacy
Finebound (details above) is the data controller for personal data collected through this site, under the GDPR as implemented in Norway by personopplysningsloven.
What I collect, and why
| Application form | Name, email, country, travel dates, budget range, interests, existing bookings and anything you write in the free-text fields. Used to assess and carry out your project. Legal basis: performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before entering one. |
|---|---|
| Email correspondence | Whatever we exchange. Legal basis: contract, and legitimate interest in keeping a record of what was agreed. |
| Payment | Handled entirely by Stripe. I receive your name, email, the amount and whether it succeeded. I never see your card number. Legal basis: contract, and a legal obligation to keep accounting records. |
What I do not do
No analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising cookies, no third-party fonts. The site sets no cookies at all. Two things are stored locally in your own browser and never sent anywhere: your light/dark preference, and a draft of the application form so that leaving the page — or stepping back from the payment screen — does not lose what you typed. The draft is deleted once a project is paid for, expires by itself after 30 days, and you can clear it at any time with the “start fresh” link on the form. I do not sell, rent or share your data, and I do not send marketing email — you will only hear from me about your own project.
Who else processes it
- Resend — delivers your application and payment notifications to my inbox.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and runs the application and payment-notification endpoints.
- Stripe — processes payments and issues invoices.
- Google (Gmail) — my mailbox, where our correspondence is stored.
Some of these are outside the EEA. Transfers rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision, as set out in each provider's own terms.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that do not become projects: deleted within 12 months. Project correspondence and deliverables: kept while the site is hosted for you, and deleted on request afterwards. Accounting records: retained five years as required by the Norwegian Bookkeeping Act (bokføringsloven § 13).
Your rights
You may request access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest. Email hello@finebound.com and I will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with how I handle it you may complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
Questions about any of this? Email hello@finebound.com and ask before you buy.
